In the afternoon proceed for the half day tour of Chennai. City sightseeing tour includes a visit to the Government Museum & Art Gallery, to see the art and bronze gallery (closed on Fridays & public holidays) and also a visit to the famous 16th century Kapaleeshwar temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, sacred to Tamil Shaivites. Non-Hindus are only allowed up to the outer courtyard. Later drive past Fort St. George, Marina Beach and San Thome Cathedral.

Chennai - Pondicherry
Morning drive to Pondicherry. On arrival check in at hotel. In the afternoon proceed for the half day tour of Pondicherry.
Visit Sri Aurobindo Ashram founded by the philosopher-saint Sri Aurobindo in 1926 to put into practice his ideals of a peaceful community. Its spiritual tenets represent a synthesis of yoga and modern science. It is also his final resting place. Also, visit the Pondicherry museum, which has sculptures, archaeological finds, and memorabilia of the French colonists. See the Sacred Heart Church with its Gothic architecture and stained glass windows.

Pondicherry - Tanjore
After breakfast at hotel, drive to Tanjore. In the afternoon proceed for the half day tour of Tanjore. Visit the beautiful Chola temple of Brihadishwara. Its bronzes and handicrafts make Tanjore one of the highlights of the South. It is also famous for its silk, one of the best in India.

Tanjore - Mahabalipuram
Morning drive to Mahabalipuram, rest of the day free at leisure.
In the morning leave for the city tour of Mahabalipuram.
Mahabalipuram famous for being a sculptor’s delight. There are 14 cave temples, nine monolithic rathas, three stone temples and four relief sculptured rock panels. Built in the Dravidian style in the 7th and 8th century, most of them are dedicated to Vishnu or Shiva. Sights include the Shore temple (a World Heritage site), Arjuna’s Penance, the Five Rathas, various mandapams etc. The sculptures here depict deities, animals, Hindu fables and scenes of everyday life.
